Exeter nanny / babysitting
Experienced, mature, reliable nanny (qualified teacher), available now
Hello.
I am a 25 year old female, married and living in Wellington. I am a recently qualified teacher; and before starting the PGCE I had lots of experience as a nanny. I would now like to return to this career. I am extremely mature, very dedicated, professional, intelligent and also hardworking at everything I do, which my employers have always commented on, and committed to providing good quality childcare where children feel happy, safe and cared for.
My first nanny job (G2, G4) was part time sole charge during term time and full time sole charge during holidays; it lasted for 2 years and often I also looked after their three male cousins (aged 4,6,8) . My next formal nanny job (G3, B1 and B6) was full time (50-70 hours a week, including babysits) sole charge. All of my employers have always trusted me fully with their children, and in my last position I did some proxy parenting. I took the children to clubs and activities, cooked healthy meals based on recipes from Annabel Carmel and did various nursery duties as well as other household tasks such as recycling. I helped the children become confident, happy swimmers and also helped the middle child learn to ride a bike, as well as helping her with reading and writing. In this nanny position I helped to run the local playgroup attended by the children and also ran a summer project - we visited the beach and then completed a project on sealife.
Further to my nannying experience, I have babysat children of all ages over a period of 10 years, been a mothers' help to two children (Bnewborn and G7) and then to four children (G6, B8, B14, G17), although this position was more sole charge and so was not technically a mother's help role. I have teaching experience, and I have other experiences at summer camps and as a tutor and reading mentor.
I have horses and grew up on a farm; consequently, I love to be outdoors, so whenever possible I will get children outdoors for muddy welly walks. I am an active nanny and like to do lots with children (playgroups, playdates, library, music/gym/swimming classes), within what is reasonable for their age and to the wishes of the child's parents. I love arts and crafts and being a qualified teacher, I would be more than capable to help with homework/offer extra tutoring based on the new Numeracy and Literacy Frameworks; further to this, I have a detailed understanding of phonics and children's progression in reading.
I have:
BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies (includes child psychology, education, child development, cultural studies and sociology of childhood)
PGCE (Qualified Teacher Status)
St John Ambulance First Aid in Schools Certificate
MNT Baby Care for Nannies Certificate
A recent enhanced CRB disclosure (prepared to renew if desired)
Full clean driving licence
Own car (but would prefer a nanny car)
I am a non-smoker
Nanny insurance
An out-of-date food hygeine qualification (which I will renew, but means I already have the knowledge)
I am continuing my professional development/ plan to enhance my development by:
Taking a CACHE unit 1 so that I can register with OfSTED (this will take approx 12 hours and I need to do it because OfSTED do not recognise my current qualifications) - distance learning
Registering with OfSTED - as soon as CACHE unit 1 is complete
Renewing my food hygeine certificate - next available 1-day course
Further MNT courses, such as sleep training and breastfeeding.
I am flexible and would be happy to negotiate mutually convenient hours of work should I be successful after an interview.
Outlined below are some of the things I have learned from my studies and experience. If you are interested to find out more, I look forward to hearing from you, preferably by email. Good luck with your search for the perfect nanny for your family.
Carrie.
What I have learned from my degree studies (Education and Childhood and Youth Studies):
* About 0-3 matters and the Every Child Matters agendas - pinpoint the areas childcare and education professionals should focus on with children;
* About child development, Piagetian and Vygotskian theories of childhood, as well as how to support children's development;
* About children's health and wellbeing;
* How children think and learn, from the day they are born.
What I have learned during my teacher training (PGCE):
* Managing challenging behaviours in a positive way;
* Detailed child protection;
* How to support children as learners;
* How to support children's development from the day they are born;
* The Early Years and Primary curriculums - the Early Learning Goals from the EY curriculum are particularly important to nannies who are supporting children's development in the different areas identified;
* About different special educational needs children may present with, and how these should/could be dealt with;
* I am skilled at using phonics programmes that schools everywhere now have to use in order to support progression in reading.
What I have learned as a nanny:
* All children are different;
* Children like to have fun and learn readily;
* How to manage various behaviours that may present themselves depending on the child;
* I have learned about the wonderful recipes from Annabel Carmel and always use them in my cooking for children.
All of my study and experience has taught me so much about children and families, but more than anything I have learned that each family and each child is different, and I am prepared to learn from each job I take. Experience has always enabled me to consolidate what I learn through study, and has been very valuable to me as a nanny. I am very experienced with children and I am a confident person around them: people comment on the brilliant relationships I build with children very quickly.
