Hays Education are currently looking for EBD Teaching staff to work in a secure unit that accommodates 16 young people of both sexes, aged between 10 and 17. The main centre, which includes the educational unit and a separate living unit designed to accommodate the needs of young women or vulnerable young men.
The young people held within the secure unit are likely to be amongst the most troubled and troublesome in the country. Equally, they will be vulnerable and often arrive with a history of difficult and challenging behaviour. However, within an environment of reflection, challenge, personal attention and specialised help, they will be encouraged to develop a range of skills, increased self-esteem and personal responsibility as well as changes in attitude. By creating this environment, an atmosphere exists in which change and improvement can be sustained.
The unit itself has been designed to a very high standard and is structured to provide physical containment in an environment which is comfortable, attractive and which offers a wide range of educational and recreational facilities. The high ratio of staff to young people ensures the highest levels of supervision by an experienced and diverse staff group.
The unit provides a full education service based on the National Curriculum
Our client are looking for an experienced teacher or professional with transferable skills of a vocational nature to work with students aged 10 -17 with ESBD. The successful candidate will assist and support the learning needs of permanently excluded students who have a range of social, emotional and behavioural special needs. They will also support teaching staff in providing learning programmes through whole class and individual support. The position is on a full time basis and will be working with up to 8 students at any one time.
Key requirements:-
Experience of training and development in teaching and learning strategies
Experience of working with students displaying emotional or behavioural difficulties
The ability to remain calm under all circumstances
Solution focused approach to problem solving
An ability to work collaboratively and flexibly with staff, government agencies, parents/carers and the general public
A working knowledge of ICT in a learning environment
Particular skills of a practical basis - plumbing, construction, carpentry, mechanic, hair and beauty, catering etc
Any subject specialisms would be desirable and an ability to lead that subject
Within the unit staff are very well supported as well as benefiting from an excellent training scheme. There will be daily contact with the head and other staff within the centre, for the purpose of receiving direction and information.
This is an excellent opportunity for somebody who wants to progress in a career working with children with ESBD. It also gives the right candidate the opportunity to be able to take groups of students independently and develop themselves as a specialist EBD teacher.
